That was an interesting first weekend of playoffs. My plans though were foiled last night. I anticipated the Mavericks losing at home to Utah, and then I was going to bet them to win the series at an outrageous price and assume Luka would return. Instead, we got the series tied.
I had expected this first round to be wildly entertaining and it will be. Yet, there are some series that are already over.
Eastern Conference
Miami is going to beat Atlanta easily. The Hawks underachieved all year and Miami’s defense smothered Atlanta in game one.
Toronto was a trendy upset pick, but Maxey became a thing and Scottie Barnes got hurt. This is over. Not even Doc River’s awful playoff history can screw this up. Well, I hope not at least.
The Bucks will beat the Bulls in 4-5 games and it should not even be that close.
That leaves us with one really fun series in Brooklyn and Boston. You can feel the hate from Boston and Kyrie. I love it. This feels so old school and new and fun at the same time. I think Boston is better, but this series will be very tight. If there is one series, you should not miss a game this is it. Both teams allegedly have people coming back, but we shall see on both.
Western Conference
The Suns will win in four games. Snooze.
The Warriors upgraded lineup of death seems locked in all the sudden. Denver is dead.
Utah is dying to lose this series and have their entire team blown up. It almost feels inevitable. I need a Luka return to make it happen.
Maybe Minnesota has arrived. Maybe Anthony Edwards is here and going to be the next great guy. I need to see it though. Steven Adams looked lost for the Grizzlies in game one and assuredly his minutes will come down tonight-in game two. Ja will get his 30 as he needs to. The rest of the Grizzlies need to get it going. I still believe in Memphis besides the game one blip.
All of this means that at this point we have three entertaining series and five that cannot end soon enough. The War begins in round two.
